Practical Workshops and Groups The digital revolution has virtually wiped out the use of negative film for all but those who want the ultimate in print quality. However, it is still a source of mystery to many. True, one can take the memory card from their digital camera to a camera shop, just as they did with film, and collect a set of prints which are to most eyes indistinguishable from those produced from film. But for anyone wanting to print their own images at home, the digital process is now a whole lot easier, quicker and cleaner than the older chemical process.
There is a basic process which requires only a small printer which accepts a memory card at one end and produces a small print at the other without much, if any, option to control the results. This, however, will not satisfy keen photographers (ie. members of this Society!) who want to produce "proper" prints on their home computer but are probably daunted by what they perceive as a very complicated process.
Practical Workshops It is for these "digitally challenged" members that the Society runs a series of Practical Workshops covering all aspects of the process and for all levels of ability, including absolute beginners with no previous experience.
Workshops are also devoted to other topics, including Portraiture, Macro, camera equipment and website creation. The Panels Group
The Panels Group is a new and enthusiastic group which encourages members to work towards PAGB and RPS distinctions, to exchange views on each other's work in progress and to work in print panels (rather than individual pictures for competitions) with the aim of presentation evenings and exhibiting work outside the club's main annual exhibition. Check out the panels group in the forums HERE.
The Audio Visual Group
The Audio Visual Group holds Workshops to encourage members to produce their own digital image sequence set to suitable music for entry into the Dunelm Trophy.
Details of all these groups/workshops will be listed on the Forum and announced in advance at meetings.
Workshops and Panel Group meetings are held in Littleton Millennium Hall from 7-30 to 10pm. Participation is limited to fully paid members of the Society only and advanced booking is advisable. There is a small charge for the evening to cover overheads: usually £2. |
